Children in today’s society experience a greater number of stressor’s than heretofore, especially through family conflict, social media and educational competitiveness.
Through our children’s service, we provide a broad range of expertise in areas such as Speech and Language therapy, Child and Adolescent Counselling, ABA Counselling for ASD and Asperger’s Syndrome, Educational Psychology testing and support etc. Child therapy is facilitated through the medium of art and play.
Here at “Mumstalk” we have a highly qualified and experienced team of counsellors who have a particular affiliation with teenagers. They attune well to the difficulties of these years and are well versed in the various vagaries and challenges that face the modern teenager. We provide short and long-term support for adolescents experiencing Depression, Anxiety, Food Disorders, Social Anxiety, Parental conflict, Panic Attack disorder etc. We also run groups to help with general difficulties. While often teenagers are reluctant to join groups they get great benefit from sharing and receiving support from others, easing the sense of isolation that is common with mental health difficulties.
One to One Child Counselling
More and more children can experience adverse emotional events and circumstances that put a strain on their ability to cope with day to day functioning. This can often lead them to withdraw into themselves, or act out in anger, leading to the disruption of their social relationships and difficulties in school. In these situations they are reacting to an environment that they are finding challenging be it parental conflict, bullying, low self esteem etc. An ever increasing incidence of ASD diagnoses of various type and severity also calls for early intervention.
Child therapy is a particular area of counselling expertise, where therapists are trained to facilitate sessions through art and play therapy, as well as talking. Due to the cognitive stage of development children are at, with its commensurate lack of emotional language that facilitates expression, this form of therapy is less intimidating and produces better outcomes.
One to One Adolescent Counselling
Adolescence can be a turbulent, and sometimes painful period of development, as children begin the process of psychologically detaching from their parents to take on their own individual identity. This march to adulthood is one that can be racked with insecurity and self consciousness, sometimes giving rise to heightened levels of distress such as social anxiety, depression, food disorders etc. Added to this there can be extra stress such as intellectual competitiveness and exam performance, conflict in sibling and parental relationships, social isolation, body image issues etc. These stressors can disturb an already tenuous balance leading to anxiety, depression etc.
Outside support from a caring, empathetic and neutral professional can help to re-balance the “teen” emotional world, as well as providing vital psychological insights and develop emotional intelligence.

Support Group for Teenagers
Various groups are run with teenagers to ease their isolation and provide a forum through which they can explore issues that are bothering them. Hearing others who share their own experiences can provide a sense of camaraderie and help them realise that they are not alone in their experiences.
