Pre Natal Support Group

This group is open to any expectant Mum who is experiencing anxiety or depression during her pregnancy. Recent research suggests that ante natal depression is as much an issue as post natal, and seems to be as common and severe. Some although not all ante natal depression continues post partum. The number of reasons this anxiety and depression is felt are myriad, but amongst them are physical symptoms of tiredness, social support, partnership relationship, pressure from others to become pregnant and negative feelings about being pregnant, anxieties about the health of the foetus, an experience of sexual abuse, a previous episode of depression or a history of food disorders. All these issues and more can be addressed and feelings around them expressed in small supportive groups, that promote honesty and non judgement. By building a close network of support from other expectant mothers, women can draw on these friendships post partum.

Post Natal Support Group

This group is for women who are experiencingl more intensely distressing feeling in the post natal period. Research has shown that difficulties at this time are more successfully alleviated through a group experience where women feel safe and secure, and can forge close bonds with other women experiencing similar difficulty. By so doing they feel more "normal". This group uses psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, and mindfulness techniques, to promote the mothers sense of well being, increase her feeling of maternal competency and hone her coping skills for more negative feelings and thoughts.
